The 2nd International Youth Leadership Awards, jointly selected by the Young Global Leadership Foundation (YGLF) and China-US Leadership Development Foundation (CULDF), were officially announced on February 3, 2021. The award, announced in the beginning of spring in 2021, is a sign of hope and revival.

The International Youth Leadership Awards aim to discover excellent youth leaders worldwide and the undertakings they are working on, as well as innovative projects and public welfare projects that have contributed to and exercised positive impacts on the society. YGLF is a non-governmental organization which has been granted the Special Consultative Status by ECOSOC. Its mission is to guide aspiring young people from around the world to become global citizens and responsible leaders. CULDF has long been committed to promoting Sino-US relations. It also takes a special interest in discovering and cultivating 2nd-generation and 3rd-generation leaders in China and the United States and developing global leadership. It has become a new powerhouse for Sino-US cooperation.

The first International Youth Leadership Awards – 2019 Culture & Communication Leadership Award was originally scheduled to be presented at the parallel conference hosted by YGLF during the 2020 UN World Conference on Women. Impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, more than 400 summits to be held during the World Conference on Women were cancelled by the UN. The winners also failed to enter the United States, so the award was officially announced online.

In 2020, such natural and man-made disasters as the new crown epidemic, Indian locust plague, Australian wildfires, California fires, hurricanes and tsunamis have already made the year 2020 a watershed in the development of human history, which reshuffles the world pattern. At a time when global social and media networks continue to be flooded with disaster news throughout the year, we need to see “beauty” and “hope” all the more. This is why we choose this winner, the “2020 International Youth Leadership Award ” —— she is Pei GUO, a famous designer of haute couture and one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by TIME 2016.

Pei GUO trained some of the earliest craftsmen in China, and has led her team to successfully restore the nearly lost 「royal embroidery」technique, bringing it into the world of couture. Her Pei GUO-Xi wedding couture collection is a celebration and innovation of traditional Chinese wedding culture, based on the inheritance of traditional techniques , so as to bring the national aesthetics, history and human emotions behind the wedding dresses to life and convey them in a more lively way.

For more than a decade, Guo Peiyi has been deeply involved in public welfare undertakings. On 14 November 2015, Guo Pei presented a couture show at a charity dinner held at the Bowers Museum in the United States and donated one of her creation to the Bowers Museum for auction. The proceeds, $40,000, go towards the Bowers Museum’s future cultural and artistic projects, contributing to the further enhancement of cultural and artistic diversity in the world. In 2017, Guo Pei actively supported the NYO-China Youth Symphony Orchestra and designed traditional costumes with unique Chinese cultural characteristics for the orchestra, which helped NYO-China performance tour at home and abroad to spread the essence of Chinese culture around the world.
